The Wim Hof Method

Wim Hof, aka The Iceman, has accomplished countless “impossible” feats, such as climbing Mount Everest past the “death zone” (~7,500), wearing nothing but shorts and shoes (2007), completing a full marathon in temperatures close to −20 °C (−4 °F) without a shirt on, and setting the Guinness World Record for longest ice bath ever recorded – 1 hour 53 minutes and 12 seconds.

Wim Hof is not part of some sort of alien species – he has simply learned to harness the cold and unleash the power his body already stores. Since 2012, he’s been teaching others to do the same, and it’s creating an incredible amount of positive change around the world.

The Wim Hof Method was created in order to teach the average person to tap into their “inner fire” and use a combination of breathing techniques and cold water immersion to feel happier, stronger, and healthier in order to live a better life.

His technique is a convenient alternative to the expensive pharmaceutical and healthcare industry. It uses natural and FREE elements – oxygen and cold water- to eradicate chronic illness, mental diseases, and many other ailments.

What Wim is capable of was long viewed as scientifically impossible. In 2007 the first scientific analysis was done at Feinstein Institute in New York. In 2011, the University Medical Center St. Radboud in Nijmegen really got the ball rolling. After running several tests they couldn’t help but admit that Wim and others are able to voluntarily influence the Autonomic Nervous System, something which up until then was thought impossible. Through the Wim Hof Method, this groundbreaking finding, published in PNAS and Nature, established credibility and bred curiosity among academia. Increasingly, researchers across a wide range of disciplines have since taken an interest, and various promising studies are currently underway.

Elee is a really great instructor…

I appreciated that she brought positivity, energy, and exhortation at the right moments; while also bringing an open ear when necessary. I thought it was courageous of her to share the experience of her father’s decline into ill-health, possibly finally. That took a lot of vulnerability but also, to show the kind of personal assertiveness to share that wound was inspiring too. I liked her little metal drum as well. As far as critiques, I think she could stand to brush up on the medical slides a bit more – I hadn’t seen them before and I would have gotten a bit more out of it had the explanation of the slides been a little tighter. It was far from bad, but that would be an avenue of improvement. Of course, this information is not the main point of the workshop so I didn’t really hold it against her. Overall, I felt like there should be many more Elee’s in the world and it would be a better place!!

Totally Worth It

I had done online course already. I have to say that attending a live class was totally worth it. Elizabeth was an awesome instructor! She was very inspirational with her stories of over coming adversity in her own life. The only thing I would say to do slightly different is the clapping circle horse stance we did was a great way to get moving and get students interacting with each other. It might be good to do that or a similar activity at the beginning of the class as an icebreaker. She was very knowledgeable and encouraging and explained the method extremely well. If you have a chance to take a course she leads, you should go for it!
