Wim Hof, aka The Iceman, has accomplished countless “impossible” feats, such as climbing Mount Everest past the “death zone” (~7,500), wearing nothing but shorts and shoes (2007), completing a full marathon in temperatures close to −20 °C (−4 °F) without a shirt on, and setting the Guinness World Record for longest ice bath ever recorded – 1 hour 53 minutes and 12 seconds.
Wim Hof is not part of some sort of alien species – he has simply learned to harness the cold and unleash the power his body already stores. Since 2012, he’s been teaching others to do the same, and it’s creating an incredible amount of positive change around the world.
The Wim Hof Method was created in order to teach the average person to tap into their “inner fire” and use a combination of breathing techniques and cold water immersion to feel happier, stronger, and healthier in order to live a better life.
His technique is a convenient alternative to the expensive pharmaceutical and healthcare industry. It uses natural and FREE elements – oxygen and cold water- to eradicate chronic illness, mental diseases, and many other ailments.
What Wim is capable of was long viewed as scientifically impossible. In 2007 the first scientific analysis was done at Feinstein Institute in New York. In 2011, the University Medical Center St. Radboud in Nijmegen really got the ball rolling. After running several tests they couldn’t help but admit that Wim and others are able to voluntarily influence the Autonomic Nervous System, something which up until then was thought impossible. Through the Wim Hof Method, this groundbreaking finding, published in PNAS and Nature, established credibility and bred curiosity among academia. Increasingly, researchers across a wide range of disciplines have since taken an interest, and various promising studies are currently underway.

“The cold is your warm friend.” – Wim Hof
Proper exposure to the cold starts a cascade of health benefits, including the buildup of brown adipose tissue, increase in metabolism, reduced inflammation, enhanced immune system, balanced hormone levels, improved sleep quality, and the production of endorphins –those feel-good chemicals in the brain that naturally elevate your mood 🙂
“Breathe!!! It’s for FREE!” – Wim Hof
We are always breathing, the plants and trees are always breathing! Yet often we are unaware of this process and of its tremendous potential. The breath is fundamental and vital to our existence. It reasons to say that becoming aware of and conditioning this process would be highly valuable. The specialized breathing techniques of the Wim Hof Method can unearth more energy, reduce stress levels, improve performance, and boost the immune response.
“If you can learn to use your mind,
anything is possible.” -Wim Hof
Cold exposure and conscious breathing both require patience and commitment in order to be fully understood. There are many ways to say it: focus, determination, meditation, concentration, mindset, conviction, belief, “the zone”… no matter the method it is understood that the Mind plays a very important role in managing the many layers of this life. The Wim Hof Method trains ones ability to respond more effectively and connect more deeply. Through training the mind, we can do more than we think we can.
Great class, great introduction to the Wim Hof Method. It has opened my eyes to the vast possibilities of using cold, breathing, and the mind for optimal health.
Elee is an excellent facilitator. I’ve been going to her workshops over the course of two years now. She has an impressive ability to connect with every person in her courses, regardless of their experience level in meditative / body work practices. Elee creates a comfortable environment which helps people open themselves up to new experiences, while also challenging people to dig deeper, or relax into different exercises. I’m excited every time she comes into Austin, because I know I will be getting new insights and a solid refresher on any content she is offering.
The two-day retreat to Crestone was life changing. Elee’s skill in Wim-Hof and personal style made for a perfect relaxing and learning environment. I highly recommend attending any of Elee’s retreats or classes. She’s a rock star.
I appreciated that she brought positivity, energy, and exhortation at the right moments; while also bringing an open ear when necessary. I thought it was courageous of her to share the experience of her father’s decline into ill-health, possibly finally. That took a lot of vulnerability but also, to show the kind of personal assertiveness to share that wound was inspiring too. I liked her little metal drum as well. As far as critiques, I think she could stand to brush up on the medical slides a bit more – I hadn’t seen them before and I would have gotten a bit more out of it had the explanation of the slides been a little tighter. It was far from bad, but that would be an avenue of improvement. Of course, this information is not the main point of the workshop so I didn’t really hold it against her. Overall, I felt like there should be many more Elee’s in the world and it would be a better place!!
I had done online course already. I have to say that attending a live class was totally worth it. Elizabeth was an awesome instructor! She was very inspirational with her stories of over coming adversity in her own life. The only thing I would say to do slightly different is the clapping circle horse stance we did was a great way to get moving and get students interacting with each other. It might be good to do that or a similar activity at the beginning of the class as an icebreaker. She was very knowledgeable and encouraging and explained the method extremely well. If you have a chance to take a course she leads, you should go for it!
and Elee is an awesome and charming teacher with a great sense of humor. The breaks are perfectly spaced and timed, and there are lots of great places around for the lunch break.
She fit in so well with everyone and was very genuine and friendly. The spread of food was delicious. I was very impressed with my day spent and hope to incorporate this into my daily life to try and ward off this nasty arthritis.
Elee provided an exemplary introduction of the Wim Hof Method to me, a person, who was totally unfamiliar with the Method. And she was able to do so with compassionate insight and ready sharing of her deep store of vital and practical knowledge of the Method. The location was well chosen and exquisite.
My great appreciation and thanks to Elee and everyone who made the experience available in such an agreeable and beneficial!
